It’s only natural in a small place like Hiiumaa – if something changes, people notice. So what really happened and where are we going from here?

When the former owners decided not to continue with the business, production could have come to a complete standstill in Vaemla and an important service for livestock farmers on their home island could have become unavailable. For us, it wasn’t just a company, but something more – a place where local raw materials, people’s work and skills developed over the years come together. Hence the decision to take over the journey from the previous owners and carry it forward.

From the start, our aim has not been to turn anything on its head. On the contrary, we want to keep what is already in place and working, and give it a boost. The Hiiumaa Meat Factory has been a significant part of the Hiiumaa food chain for years and has won the hearts of many mainlanders as well. This role is important to us and continues to be so. The core beliefs and processes remain the same: production continues to be a local Hiiumaa affair, cooperation with local livestock farmers is the basis of our working principles, and providing local raw materials for both home and professional kitchens is at the heart of our work.

We want to get better every day and find new opportunities. We want to build even stronger cooperation and find new outlets to share the fruits of our work with even more people. We believe people want to know where their food comes from, and they have the right to know.

From these beliefs grew a new brand – Rohuline.

Rohuline (Grassy) is not just a name. It’s a reference to where it all starts – the grasslands, the natural environment of the animals and the care that local farmers give to their herds. It’s a reminder that good meat is not born in production but much earlier – in the field and on the farm.

As new leaders, we don’t know everything, but we move forward step by step, learning and growing with the company. We are developing our production, expanding our range, testing new ideas and trying to get a little better every day. It’s that simple.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, asked questions or just stopped by during this time. In Hiiumaa, no one does anything alone – and they shouldn’t have to. It is cooperation that takes us forward.

See you in Vaemla!

The past year has seen a whirlwind of change in the Hiiumaa Meat Factory, accompanied by many questions and rumours.
